The extensive Harvard/Yale Study showed that this would be the case.
The chart comparisons seem to bear out the findings of the
study. They also show the same "correlation" for as far back
as the Top 10 Downloads has existed :).

 Thats a LOT of correlation.

While Correlation does not necessarily mean Causation,
If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck ...
chances are damn good its a duck.

Calling it hogwash won't make it any less a "duck".

Correlation does not mean causation. While it is *possible* that people downloading "has no effect" on the number of people paying for the movie, a third factor may be causing both (downloads and tickets) to be at the top of the list (it just may be a good movie, so some people download it, others pay for tickets.)
There is no way to know if there was an "ill-effect" on the number of payed tickets because there is no way to know what the ticket sales could have been without downloading.

Sure, I hate the MPAA too, but you can't just use hogwash and expect to win.

You're right. It _is_ different.

That's because as well as posting stories, I'm also answering the phone, responding to emails, and so on, and dealing with stuff centering on the p2p net libel case and the Toronto benefit conference and round table on August 5. [http://p2pnet.net/story/9432]

I'm one of those people who has trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time and I lost my focus and accidentally posted something over the first *Pirates II tops file sharing charts* story. That meant I had to re-write it. Damn it! heh

Cheers! And all the best ...

This morning, this story pointed out that not only is Pirates the
top p2p DL, it also easily cleared 300 mill in it's 3rd weekend,
giving lie to the statement, "P2P hurts sales".
See the Yahoo Box office link to compare the Top Dl's to the
Top Box office draws.
Very interesting.

Yahoo Movies Box Office Charts.

http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/boxoffice/weekend/

It would be very enlightening if, with every top ten DL chart
posted, the Box office rankings and grosses were also posted.

That makes the bullshit very obvious.

( I wonder how long sites will be allowed to post info like this ? )
