Amazon online movie launch

p2pnet.net News:- Ad-free, digital versions of full-length movies and TV shows will soon be available from Amazon, says Advertising Age.

"A year in the works, the e-tailer’s digital-video-download service is set for a mid-August launch and will feature a subscription service and a la carte movies and TV shows," says the story, going on:

"Amazon’s service will require users to install software on their computers to allow them to buy videos a la carte, likely as part of a download-to-own model, or subscribe to them, like a digital version of Netflix’s rental model."

Other nascent digital-video download services, "notably MovieLink and CinemaNow," have failed to catch on with consumers, "mostly, analysts say, because they offer clumsy, inconvenient user experiences," states Advertising Age.

What will set Amazon’s service apart, the story adds, "is its reputation as a trusted resource – mostly fueled by the company’s sophisticated recommendation engine, which has been credited with helping the company increase profitability in its core online-sales business".

The story doesn’t say how much the movies will cost, but Warner and Sony both confidently expect consumers to fork out between $20 for ‘new’ movies such as Good Night and Good Luck, or $10 for elderly titles such as Rebel Without a Cause, both of whic are on the Warner list.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

Last week CompuUSA had blank (movies to be) DVDs at $5.00 for 50 disks. Thats 10 cents each.

And Hollywood is going to compete against the blank disks with $20 computer file moves which you cannot even take on your vacation to watch on your laptop?

Hollywood, get off your pedestal and sell something for what it’s worh.
