BT same-day movie downloadsl
p2pnet.net News:- Britain’s BT has signed a deal Hollywood’s NBC Universal that’ll ‘allow’ broadband users to download movies on the same day as their DVD release.
They’ll pay through the nose, of course ——- £17, to be exact, which is close to $31.50.
“The deal is similar to deals Universal already has in place with DVD rental company Lovefilm and UK website Wippit,” says the BBC. Rentals will follow this autumn when BT launches BT Vision, its pay-for-view TV and film service, it says.
BSkyB has launched a subsidised broadband Net product, “and NTL has offered a bundle of services that includes ‘free’ cable television,” says Reuters, continuing:
“BT’s download service will include two digital copies – one for a PC and one for a portable device – plus a DVD sent through the mail. The movies will be available as soon as the DVDs hit stores, several months before they air on pay-TV.”
NBC Universal is 80 percent owned by General Electric and 20% by Vivendi.
Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony and Disney are the remaining members of the Big Six Hollywood movie cartel.

Don’t forget, there’s a whole lot of people out there with more money than common sense. The studios (and hardware vendors…) always introduce things at stupidly high prices. When VHS movies were first offered many of the high demand titles were $80 to over $100 in 1985 dollars! (1985 is an approximation). Download prices will drop, pretty fast, but they’ll still prolly be DRMed crap.
These offerings will not put a dent in P2P use…

I pay £0.10 for a blank dvd to copy my free downloads. If the MPAA can beat that I will buy from them.
