File sharing increase in Japan
p2pnet.net News:- Big Four Organized Music efforts to stampt file sharing out notwithstanding, it’s on the rise in Japan, says a new report conducted online in mid-June.
“About 1.8 million people in Japan are active users of file-sharing software, a sharp increase from a year ago, according to a survey by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), TV broadcasters, and other industry groups.,” says the IDG News Service.
“The figure is equal to about 3.5 percent of all Internet users and represents a big jump from last year’s survey, which put the number at about 1.3 million, or about 2.7 percent of Internet users.”
Winny was the most popular p2p application, with WinMX #2 and and Limewire #3.
“BitTorrent clients, popular in the West, were fifth on the list, with only 6 percent of people using it as their main application,” says the story.
Meanwhile, inspired, possibly, by Sony BMG (Japan, Germany), Warner Music (US), EMI (UK) and Vivendi Universal (France), Japanese prosecutors want Isamu Kaneko, who wrote Winny, thrown into jail.
