Verizon drops mp3 rental fee
p2pnet.net News:- “Everybody loves chocolate” ads showing Verizon’s new phone partially unwrapped in foil have been showing up, but the Detroit Free Press is chuffed because it was the only news outlet in Michigan to get one for review, it boasts.
Like wow.
The phone is, “almost exactly the size of an Apple iPod Mini, a touch narrower and a tiny bit deeper, and its slick black finish includes a 1.25-inch-by-1.75-inch color screen and a wheel-shaped control pad that doesn’t approach Apple’s in simplicity but is clearly intended to mimic its looks,” says the story.
But, “The draw is the phone’s MP3 player roots: It can store songs internally or on a memory card ….”
Like wow.
Then comes what Verizon hopes will be the kicker.
It’s dropping its $15 a month mp3 rental charge, instead demanding $2 for two copies of one DRM-ed song from a catalogue supplied by you-know-who.
But, “The copies are for your phone and your PC; downloads done from your PC are 99 cents,” the Los Angeles Times points out, going on:
“The new Chocolate handset, made by LG Electronics Inc. of South Korea, features software that will let users play their own MP3-format music on the device in addition to songs purchased from Verizon’s music store – avoiding the mini-controversy that accompanied the launch of that service early this year.
“The company is charging $150 for the phone with a new two-year contract, and an additional $100 to buy an insertable mini-storage card that can hold 2 gigabits of music or other files such as photos.”
Like wow. But it does look tasty ;p

Did I read that right? A 2 gigabit (~256MB) memorycard for $100?
