Firefox clocks up 200M

p2pnet.net News:- RealNetworks, Google and Mozilla say Real will push the Google Toolbar and Firefox with RealPlayer, the corporate application which received the kiss of life and a PR boost from, ironically, Microsoft in a $761 million anti-trust settlement.

“Mozilla is very pleased to partner with global leaders like Google and Real to distribute our award-winning Firefox Web browser,” says Mozilla ceo Mitchell Baker, crediting the aplication’s global community of open source contributors.

Real suffered a string of critical security failures and, like the other corporate download ’services,’ is making little headway in an online music world dominated by the p2p networks and independent sites, entertainment cartel claims to the contrary notwithstanding.

Firefox, meanwhile, has been making steady inroads into Microsoft’s turf and on July 31, the browser’s download counter crossed the 200 million mark.

… And half of those downloads are Web developers wanting to test out their Web site in FFox because they receive complaints that their site (which works well in every other browser) isn’t running in the piece-of-shit-fox.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Haha. Not frontpage. I write my Web pages mostly in Notepad (PHP) and Dreamweaver (for ease of making tables/forms).

Standards compliant I am not, but just because I don’t close a &ltbr /&gt tag correctly (eg. &ltbr&gt) — shouldn’t mean my Web sites are any less respectable than those who comply with W3’s standards.

Afterall, if it works in everywhere else, why shouldn’t it work in Firefox, right?

  3. Reader's Write Says:

being a lazy coder =/ respectable

being a lazy coder = unhappy visitors who may never come back

Not about money, nor visitors, for me. It’s more about enjoyment. I enjoy making Web sites, and the content for said Web sites. That’s all that matters to me. Sure, it’d be nice to earn a living off it, but the competition is so large these days, there’s no room for new-comers, really.

I have realplayer on my system and i have no problem what so ever with it.

I don’t find its taking over my system nore does it install applications without my authorization.

IE on the other hand take over the whole computer and wmp is such a resource hog its not even funny.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

do you enjoy being a corporate microsuck lackey?

Perhaps my experiences with RealPlayer came a long time ago, when spyware removers would show it. Once learning of it, I will never allow the app on my computer again. One of the things you really have to keep in mind is that of partnerships. Once a spyware company partners with another app, if that app has spyware suddenly the spyware company doesn’t remove it.

I much agree that IE is another undesirable that won’t reside on my computer. However, thankfully there are lots of browsers out there when one turns to look for something that isn’t based on the IE or IE engine.
