CEA attacks RIAA

p2pnet.net News:- The Big Four Organized Music cartel’s RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has been attacked by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) president and ceo Gary Shapiro.

A letter sent to congressman Rick Boucher, “contained information that the RIAA has avoided participating in the copy-protection technical working group because the music industry group does not want to change its business model,” says the Associated Press.

"We are pleased to see the RIAA letter finally confirmed, as we have long suspected, that no technical specification for an audio flag, or in fact anything else, exists and that the RIAA has stayed away from the copy-protection technical working group in part because it has nothing to propose," the story has Shapiro saying.

"The letter also confirms that the RIAA’s interest lies solely in preserving its existing ways of business, with the hope that it can maximize profits by limiting innovation and undermining long-standing consumer rights.”

Rick Boucher is a good man these days when it comes to “our” needs and fair usage rights.

im glad to see the RIAA is getting shot down all over the place like a japanese warplane

First, I’m glad to see the RIAA getting heat. They deserve to be melted into oblivion by a plasma cutter after all the ripping off of artists and consumers alike that they’ve done!!!

Second; a QUIBBLE: the letter states that the “…RIAA has avoided participating in the copy-protection technical working group…”. If that’s the case then HOW did we get the Sony Rootkit Debacle? Sony and all of its subsidiaries ARE members of the RIAA!!!!! Google the RIAA and go to the page where the RIAA lists its membership. What members of the RIAA have tried such tactics and just simply haven’t been caught at it yet?

I personally will never buy anything Sony again. I also try to stay away from other RIAA members. I don’t download media but I do buy CDs and DVDs…and keep them AWAY from my computer! And of those I try to get my hands on those that were pressed prior to 2000 when the DMCA/DRM/C.R.A.P. started.
