Rockstar Bully, ’schoolyard fisticuffs’
p2pnet.net News:- “Bully is the brutally funny debut title from Rockstar Vancouver and is expected to hit retail shelves in 2006.”
That’s part of the promo for the newest release from Take 2 Interactive’s Rockstar Games, purveyors of the infamous Grand Theft Auto series.
Rockstar Vancouver, a video game studio in British Columbia, Canada, was formed when Rockstar Games bought Barking Dog Studios, the maker of Homeworld: Cataclysm, among others.
And in keeping with Take 2’s predaliction for brutality, Bully is set in a fictional reform school and, due for release in October, it’s already under attack.
“In March, Florida’s Miami-Dade County School Board called on retailers not to sell the game to minors and required the school district to warn parents about potentially harmful effects of playing violent video games,” says Fox News.
And, “Some have expressed fears that the game is ‘a Columbine simulator,’ a reference to the deadly 1999 shootings at a Colorado high school,” says USA Today.
But it seems Take 2 has been paying attention to the criticism levelled at GTA, and in particular on St Andreas because, “From a two-hour exclusive preview of Bully, the ‘Columbine simulator’ fear appears to be meritless,” says USA Today.
“There are no guns in the game and no killing. Schoolyard fisticuffs are a central element, but there is no blood or black eyes, and nobody seems to get seriously hurt.”
