Did AOL data leak expose you?

p2pnet.net News:- If you’re wondering if you’re in the same boat as Thelma Arnold, ie, that confidential personal information about you may have been splashed to the world by the huge, and very recent, AOL gaffe, the EFF has an idea that may help.

AOL violated the privacy of more than 650,000 users when it publicly released search query records, the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) points out.

“Search terms can expose private information about your family, your medical history, your financial information, and much more,” it states. “These records could be connected back to you and cause you great harm. Were you one of the AOL customers whose personal data was exposed? Was a friend or family member?”

Well, were you?

Find out by contacting AOL and, “demand that they stop keeping these kinds of records,” declares the EFF on its new AOL public assistance page. “By voicing your concerns now, you can make sure AOL works to prevent another damaging data leak from happening again.”

The site gives phone numbers and ideas on what to say when you finally reach AOL, as well as a request to log your call with the EFF so they can, “monitor AOL’s reactions”.

Stay tuned.

Not only should search engines be called but so should ALL our politicians and also ISPs. AOL is an ISP that is owned and operated by Time Warner who is a MAJOR member of the RIAA.
