Dell ‘false advertising’ claims
p2pnet.net News:- Dell could be hit with a number of lawsuits in China for alleged false advertising.
Chinese consumers claim Dell’s laptops have different chips than advertised, says Bloomberg News, continuing:
“The lawsuit may make it more difficult for the company to increase its share of the world’s second-largest computer market. The consumers sued Dell because Inspiron 640M laptops they bought from the Round Rock, Texas-based company were equipped with Intel Corp.’s T2300E processor and not T2300 chips as advertised on Dell’s Web site and shown on invoices, Sharon Zhang, a Dell spokeswoman in Beijing, said Friday by telephone.”
In June Dell reportedly said there was no difference for consumers using CPU T2300 or T2300E, “and that it wouldn’t reimburse consumers for the incorrect configuration”.
But, “Francis Kam, director of Dell’s client sales support in China, admitted on direct2dell.com Website on Thursday that the company switched to the T2300E chip for some notebook models in some countries because it provide a better value for customers who are not interested in virtualization,” says The Shanghai Daily. “The company did not update marketing materials in China prior to making the change to the T2300E processor, however.
“Dell has corrected the error in it specifications, made apologies and offered full refunds for returned T2300E-based systems, according to the Website.”
