Murdoch’s $20 downloads
p2pnet.net News:- The latest of the Big Six Hollywood studios to admit the Net is where the future lies is 20th Century Fox, which says it’ll try to sell Direct2Drive downloads from Ruper Murdoch’s Fox Interactive Media (FIM) sites.
The operative word is, however, ‘try’ since FIM hopes to rip gullible consumers off for around $20 per movie.
“Shortly afterward, the programs will be made available for purchase from News Corp.’s popular online teen hangout MySpace.com, Fox Interactive Media president Ross Levinsohn said,” according to Information Week, going on:
20th Century Fox already sells flics to CinemaNow and Movielink, but, “the new project is an early indicator of News Corp. chief executive Rupert Murdoch’s ambitions to exploit Direct2Drive’s technology in the fledgling movie-download market,” the story has Gartner’s Allen Weiner saying.
“FIM, which claims to have more than 75 million users, said Direct2Drive would promote Twentieth Century content throughout the network of its parent company IGN Entertainment, which is a part of FIM. IGN sites include Rotten Tomatoes and Film Force,” states Information Week.
Murdoch’s News Corp bought Direct2Drive last year for $650 million, says The Boston Herald.
