RealNetworks to exploit Linux
p2pnet.net News:- RealNetworks believes it’s figured out a way to use Linux to boost its corporate download offerings.
It’ll, release open-source software this year that will let Linux computers play Windows Media files, says ZDNet, going on, Novell said it will include the tool in its Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 in the fourth quarter.
“The work we’re doing will all go into the Helix client,” the story has Jeff Duchmann, RealNetworks general manager of client and digital rights management technologies, saying.
But, he stresses, the software, won’t support digital rights management available with Windows.
Real is also thinking about adding support for Apple C.R.A.P. and others, he said, though that would require further licensing actions for the company, says ZDNet.
Good luck with Apple, anyway. When Real tried getting alongside Steve Jobs once before, a “self-declared war” was the result.
