Weird Al to the RIAA ….

p2pnet.net News:- Not long ago Weird Al let it be known that the very record industry that says it is out to search and destroy file sharing so artists like him would get paid, has failed to pay him a fair revenue generated from his music on iTunes. “THE RECORDING industry is using online sales to screw artists for more cash” the Inquirer quoted Al. Now Al is striking back in the way he knows best…

Al’s latest song titled “Don’t Download This Song” is now available – as a free MP3 download. Posted on his MySpace site the parody’s title sounds like a plea to file sharers, but in reality it is a savvy shot against the record industry.

Sample lyric? “‘Cause you’ll start out stealing songs/but then you’re robbing liquor stores and selling crack and running over school kids with your car/So don’t download this song/The record store’s where you belong.”

So download Don’t Download This Song. It’s DRM free in the MP3 format, which means it can be played on every player including the iPod, a statement in itself. Do it. Even Lars Ulrich knows it’s wrong.

this is a great song. hopefully other so-called “artists” will listen to it and understand who the real criminals are.

well well, got the captcha wrong twice, lost my post each time once i clicked back, so im not gonna bother retyping it anymore.

The same happened to me several times on other topics. I understand Jon’s need and the effort he has to put into cleaning up after a spam bot has run; still the present string has a bit of problems in plainly displaying the figures for making a post. That allows for mistakes and then the loss of a post if it is not correct as it doesn’t return you to the original post but rather to a blank screen. If you didn’t save your post or copy it before entering the string, it is gone.

As a result, several of the topics and articles that I would have commented on I gave up in disgust rather than re-type the entire thing yet again. There’s some growing used to it I have yet to accomplish.

I agree; I lost a post, too. Sure, now I’ll keep a copy on the clipboard, but who’s to know? At the very least, the “you failed” page should show you a copy of your text, so that you can copy it THEN and paste it back in. My “rimage.php” had a symbol in it that could have been any of {Iil:1}.

Throughly familiar with ctrl+c and ctrl+v. That doesn’t prepare you for the first experience where the R and the A are so alike as to be hard to tell which is which on the smaller fonts. It was the main reason for the first initial post loss after the strings came into effect.

I was exasperated at losing a fairly lengthly post and was not going to retype it. Such happens and I guess that is where we learn.

    Or, rather, I read ;p

I know what you mean, but I had to do something. A lot of the spam was hard-core porn, including kiddie porn. Google searches in various countries would turn up the ’subject’ and people would be directed to the p2pnet comment post with all the links.

p2pnet. Porn finder. Very nice. I don’t have anything against erotica – it’s nothing new: been around for a few centuries – but I hate anything to do with kids. And there are still a lot of posts which I haven’t yet expunged. I’m killing as many as I can every day but with thousands to deal with, it’ll take a while.

Meanwhile, I’ll try and come up with something that’ll solve this particular problem.

    Cheers!
