Australian police data leak
p2pnet.net News:- After a “serious contravention” when confidential files were leaked from the LEAP (Law Enforcement Assistance Program) during an outsourced police audit, south-eastern Australia’s Victorian Police has been served with a “notice to comply” with the state’s Information Privacy Act.
“The circumstances were such that the information was exposed to potential misuse, loss, unauthorised access, unauthorised modification and disclosure,” Australia IT has privacy commissioner Paul Chadwick saying.
Now, “Victoria Police is required to build a new data storage facility, estimated to cost around $100,000, to ‘improve the speed and quality’ of auditing access to LEAP,” says the story. “A confidential appendix to the order specifies ’suitable hardware, software, skills and costings’provided by an independent expert.”
Chadwick also, “served notice on the Justice Department, demanding compliance over the security of data held in the E*Justice database, which is linked to LEAP”
