Google, eBay, ad deal
p2pnet.net News:- Google and eBay are forging a deal which’ll add to the increasing tendency of the Net to resemble American TV – advertising everywhere, all the time.
eBay has given Google an exclusive contract to supply text-based advertising for its websites outside the US, “echoing its earlier agreement to carry advertising from Yahoo in its home market,” says The Financial Times.
The alliance will, “further isolate Microsoft at a time when the software developer has sought partnerships of its own to accelerate its internet initiatives,” says the story.
eBay and Google will also feature a ‘click to call’ advertising system, “that will use both Skype and the much-smaller Google Talk,” says The New York Times.
“Ads on Google and products listed on eBay will have a click-to-call link that will allow users to have a conversation with the advertiser or product seller.”
eBay and Goggle hope sellers will pay a fee for each call they receive, which they’ll divvy up 50/50.
“This is all about getting the customer to buy quicker,” Goggle ceo Eric Schmidt is quoted as saying.
eBay’s deal with Google stops short of another with Yahoo in at least two significant ways, says The Financial Times.
“While Yahoo is to supply display as well as text advertising to Ebay, Google is not in the display business, though it has said it plans to enter it at some stage. Also, Yahoo has agreed to carry PayPal, Ebay’s online payment service, on its sites, while Google recently launched its own payment service.”
