The Net: ‘cannibalizing TV’
p2pnet.net News:- "Most of what’s happening in the encounter between television and the Internet has been the Internet cannibalizing television," says ex-US president Al Gore.
Television is still the most influential form of media and citizens ought to have more control over its programming, Gore told UK TV executives, recently.
He owns a US-based current affairs TV channel which shows user-generated programs, believes the Internet is not yet technologically capable of replicating the power of TV, says Reuters.
"What is needed is to reverse the flow and find ways to use the Internet to give individuals access to the public forum, which is television," the story has him saying.
Gore, "framed his argument around the need for citizens to rejoin the democratic process and to be given the ability to challenge inaccurate remarks made by politicians, especially in the TV ads that dominate election campaigns," says Reuters.

What a bunch of BS. It was Clinton and he that eliminated many of the previous long-standing rules on media consolidation, ie on TV and newspapers, (ever wonder how Clear Channel became so huge all of a sudden?) under the pretext that the advent of the internet changed all the rules. Guess he’s mad because he can’t have his cake and eat it too.

IMHO Al gets bashed more often than he deserves, but that’s politics for you. An ugly beast from any angle. That being said, this one is pretty dumb. Al, unless you’re still driving a horse and buggy to work, live with it. Resistance is futile.
