Future of Music Summit

But publishing is still complicated: What is the role of the music publisher? What are the income streams from publishing rights? Should you sign a publishing deal, or self-publish? This workshop will provide the basics about publishing and talk about new ways that musicians can license their work.”
The above is the build-up for the Future of Music Policy Summit in Montreal.
Dubbed Pop Montreal, the five day event starts on October 6 and is guaranteed to be a lot more than just interesting to anyone who cares about music not only in Canada, but around the world.
Confirmed panelists include Michael Geist, the outspoken Canada research chair in Internet and e-commerce law, University of Ottawa, and Graham Henderson, the front man for the Big Four Organized Music cartel’s CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association of America), David Basskin, Canadian Music Reproduction Rights Agency president, as well as David Byrne, Princeton University’s professor Ed Felten and Creative Common’s professor Lawrence Lessig
Also in attendance, apparently, will be US congressmen Howard Berman and Rick Boucher, as well as senators Orin ‘Terminator’ Hatch and Norm Coleman.
