Microsoft Release Candidate 1

p2pnet.net News:- It’s been delay delay all the way for Microsoft Vista, currently two years behind schedule, with the outlook continuing to be confused and blurry.

However, Bill and the Boyz have finally released what the Associated Press is calling a “near-final version” for a, “select group of technical experts”.

Release Candidate 1 (RC1) may now be in the hands of a select few, milions of them, according to Computerworld, but that doesn’t mean Vista will break what’s become the Microsoft Longhorn tradition of making promises but failing to deliver —– not that the folks over at Mozilla, whose “modest” Firefox 2 beta has only just arrived, will be seriously disturbed.

RC1 will be distributed, “to 20,000 users already in the technical beta program, 500,000 MSDN and TechNet subscribers, and 1.5 million people who were in the Beta 2 Customer Preview Program (CPP), or public beta test, says Computerworld.

And Microsoft will, “significantly widen the distribution by opening the door to new CPP testers,” the story says, going on, “Information about the public beta test will be made available at a later time. In addition, the software company has made arrangements to distribute RC1 DVDs as ‘cover mounts’ on magazines, so that magazine readers can install the latest version as well. According to Sullivan, RC1 will be the most widely distributed pre-release version of Vista to date.”

It’ll also offer a challenge to key generator builders and code crackers since RC1 will work only until May 31, 2007, after which it’ll time out and crash.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Canada recently “accidentally” released details, and Amazon.com is already taking orders for Vista.
