PS3: too late for Xmas
p2pnet.net News:- Sony Corp shares have fallen with news of yet another delay in the launch of its PlayStation 3 game console, say reports.
“Sony, which competes with Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo Co. Ltd. in the nearly $30 billion video game market, said after the market close on Wednesday it would delay the PS3 launch in Europe to March from November, missing the critical Christmas shopping season in a key market,” says The Washington Post.
Sony said commercial production of blue laser, “a key component for PS3’s Blu-ray optical disc drive,” has fallen behind schedule, “forcing the delay in Europe and other regions including Australasia,” according to the story.
However, “It stood by its plans for Japan and North American launches in November.”
And speaking of Australasia, “the damage to Sony by this further delay goes way beyond its prospects in the games space,” says IT Wire.
“Sony’s lethargy in bringing PS3 to market has not only enabled Microsoft to gain a firm foothold in the games console market with Xbox 360, it’s a foothold that will get even firmer over the next six months. It also threatens the Japanese electronics giant’s prospects of winning the high definition video format war,” says the story, adding:
“Sony was looking to PS3 as a convenient way of getting affordable Blu-ray players into the hands of users this year. Instead, Microsoft will bring to store shelves an HD DVD player that plugs into Xbox 360 consoles, which is tipped to cost as little as US$200.”

I’m not suprised. I read that the new ps3 will only allow games to be played on one machine. thereby eliminating the used game market (which Is part of my business) and eliminating friends loaning there games to other friends. I wonder if this is true or not????

Geeze isn’t that a shame. Well I for one don’t care how good Sony “claims” their product to be. Their reputation is damaged severely and I could not trust them not to pull other stunts such as mentioned (I’ve heard this rumor too) or that it might be loaded with yet another phone home. Bad enough that they think that this game machine is ok at the high price they have set. I wouldn’t have it, for no other reason than the name Sony on it.
Wonder how good the power supply is in it?
