Free p2p tsunami alert system
p2pnet.net News:- P2p technology might provide an invaluable, and free, means of providing warnings on tsunamis.
Michael Stadler’s Tsunami-Harddisk-Detector, “utilizes your existing computer hardware to detect earthquakes, which can lead to tsunamis,” he says on his home page. “It is a pure software solution, therefore it can be distributed free of charge.”
How does it work?
Stadler’s Tsunami-Harddisk-Detector was demonstrated at the Ars Electronica show in Austria and, “A harddisk`s read/write head has to operate with great precision,” says the exhibition site.
“To work with stored data, it scans the disk`s surface with exactitude down to the micrometer. If its position is changed by even a single micrometer as the result of a tremor, it must immediately be returned to the correct position. Such vibration correction features are standard equipment in the harddisk of every PC.”
Computers (nodes) taking part in the project connect to a p2p network, “establishing a distributed computing platform with high reliability,” says Stadler, going on:
“A few of the participating computers act as supernodes, thereby performing data analysis on their attached nodes. In case of emergency, the supernodes inform their attached nodes instantly. Hence, if you decide to participate and install the client software, you will be automatically warned about potential tsunamis.”
But, he says, “The provided software is still in its experimental stage. At present, this site is purely for educational use only and should in no way be considered to be a serious prediction of tsunami risk.”

I think this is a hoax. I don’t believe it.
