Kuro bites the dust
p2pnet.net News:- Taiwain’s Kuro, another formerly independent online p2p file sharing company, has been swallowed whole by the Big Four Organized Music cartel, to be regurgitated as a, ” legitimate portal for music downloads”.
It had the misfortune to feature in the country’s first criminal case against a p2p site and in December last year launched the Neo, an mp3 player focusing primarily on Chinese-language songs from its own network.
Now Kuro’s operators, Fashionow Co Ltd, have “settled” with the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), owned by Warner Music (US), Vivendi Universal (France), EMI (UK) and Sony BMG (Japan, Germany), says Reuters.
“Under settlement of the civil case, Fashion Now would stop distributing its peer-to-peer (P2P) swapping software immediately and will ensure closure of the copyright-infringing service by October 15, the federation said. The Web site will instead operate a legitimate portal for music downloads and would sever all links with the old services, the federation said.”
