Remote controlled uTorrent

p2pnet.net News:- µTorrent’s new IRC channel was big enough news, “to settle the most demanding of BitTorrent fans, but yesterday’s announcement of a fully functional web interface should satiate the µTorrent hordes indefinitely,” says Slyck.

What’s so exciting?

Assume µTorrent user ‘A’ is in the Caribbean, “and is suddenly overwhelmed with the inexplicable urge to download the latest Red Hat release,” says the post. “Unfortunately the public WIFI connection at the hotel only has a lousy 300 kilobit down pipe – a speed next to impossible to achieve on a shared connection.

“But wait. The dream of downloading that Red Hat release isn’t lost with a slow Internet connection. The fact the user has an Internet connection is good enough. Assuming this imaginary µTorrent user has the latest web interface enabled client, all he or she needs to do it log into the client, and boom! – a web interface version of µTorrent magically appears on the remote machine. Ok, it’s not magic, it’s just some Java code manipulated via HTML.”

Nor is there a 300 kb pipe limitation because, “The end user simply uploads the desired torrent via the web interface to his or her home machine,” says Slyck, adding:

“The home µTorrent client accepts the torrent, and begins downloading – with the advantage of the ultra fast home connection. When the individual returns to the home computer, the sought after file will be waiting.”

Over on the µTorrent forum, “I’m glad to finally present to you the first public beta of µTorrent’s WebUI,” says Directrix, going on:

“The files you will need can be found here. The zip files contains a new µTorrent beta, a readme file, and another zip which contains the html, css, and js files.

“A good start might be to read through the readme file to help you set things up smile. If you have any questions you can join our official irc channel or make a post here in the WebUI forum.”

An API will be released in the next few days, “detailing how developers can interact with µTorrent,” adds the post.
