Hollywood goes to the dogs

p2pnet.net News:- Back in May we had to confirm that our post on two new FACT executives named Lucky and Flo wasn’t a spoof.

They’re a pair of ’specially trained’ black labs and as this video shows, they were recruited in a joint operation featuring FACT (Farcical Approaches to Copyright Transgressions or the Federation Against Copyright Theft, depending on where you’re sitting), FedEx and Britain’s HM Revenue & Customs,

Yeh. Well. Anyhow, now the MPAA is getting in on it.

“The Motion Picture Association of America on Thursday unveiled its latest tool in the war on movie piracy,” says Reuters, “a pair of DVD-sniffing Labrador Retrievers named Lucky and Flo.

The story parrots various MPAA ‘piracy’ statistics as though they, too, were real and goes on that Lucky and Flo will, “sniff out optical discs in luggage or other containers, and stop the discs from getting to manufacturing plants where they can be reproduced”.

No really! It’s a Reuters wire release! So it must be true!

But before they start, “Lucky and Flo will go on a world tour of cities such as Hong Kong and Singapore, just as movie stars go on tour to promote their latest films,” says the item, adding, “They will travel throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico and even visit Dubai in the Middle East to showcase their talents to customs agents and other officials.”

We can see it now. Thousands of travellers, already harrassed by customs officers looking for bombs, tripping over MPAA dogs. And Reuters doesn’t explain how L&F tell the difference between dodgy and not-dodgy DVDs.

Meanwhile, the rumour that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are training copyright chipmunks to detect illegal mp3s can now definitely be discounted.

Oh come on, as if the dogs will be able to smell anything over the all-pervading stench of bulldust that surrounds the content industries.

Those animal rights people should be demanding an immediate end to the cruel treatment being inflicted on those poor dogs.
