p2pnet: no posts on Monday
2pnet.net News:- Hi all —– it’s going to be a no post day on Monday, similar to last Wednesday, and for the same reason. I have to be in Vancouver while Nikki Hemming’s Canadian lawyers attempt to gut my defence before I get to a jury trial, whenever that may be.
Last week I had a bit of time before I went to the ferry (I live in Vancouver Island, about 1.5 hours from the mainland) and I was able to post a few headlines and links, but that’s not going to happen tomorrow.
So if you feel like it, you could use ‘comments’ under this to post a url or two pointing to items you think may interest other readers.
And on that, comment post spammer activity has been severely curtailed by the presence of the verification system, and I’m managing to nail most of the new stuff within a few hours of it being posted. But obviously, that’s not going to happen tomorrow either, so you’ll probably see a few junk comments under some stories.
Just ignore them. I’l trash them when I get back from Vancouver.
If you’re not familiar with the law suit, it’s a libel case launched again me initially by Australia’s Sharman Networks and Nikki Hemming, who runs Sharman’s Kazaa p2p file sharing application. However, Sharman dropped out and now it’s Hemming by herself.
Cheers! And thanks. And all the best …
Jon

On Monday, September 25, Thompson will journey to another state and announce, with his co-counsel, the filing of what will likely prove to be hugely significant wrongful death action against Sony and Take-Two. The angel is in the details, as this battle in the “culture war†may indeed eclipse even what is going on in Alabama.

A Chinese journalist jailed in part due to e-mail evidence provided by a Yahoo subsidiary plans to file a lawsuit in the U.S. against the Internet company within the next few months.
Tao was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Amnesty International and Reporters Without Borders have both criticized Yahoo over the Tao incident, and a group of U.S. lawmakers blasted a group of Internet companies earlier this year, including Yahoo, Google, Microsoft and Cisco Systems, for failing to uphold free expression in China.
“Internet companies should not disclose personal information that could violate the basic human rights of their users,” Ho said.

The British Library hopes to protect statutory exceptions and fair dealing, which enable libraries to make and preserve copies of content, and make them available for research purposes and for disabled people.
“This is a global, international issue,” Brindley said. “We have to have the same balance as in traditional print. We are seeking a triage ensuring creators are rewarded but also that the public good is served.”
The Open Rights Group, a digital civil-rights organization, said it “whole-heartedly supported” the British Library’s call for a clarification of copyright law.

Reliable? copyright education is now available to save all sinners out there who are criminals because of their ignorance, and as some enlightened 14th. century judges say, ignorance is no excuse.
Just see this press release:
iCopyright Launches Copyright Education Website… at
http://www.marketwire.com/mw/release_html_b1?release_id=166514
Here:
“Internet users can learn about copyright and report copyright piracy.”.
No explanation is given how to avoid a defamation lawsuit (or gunfire) when reporting the criminal copyright infringement habits of your close acquaintances.
“Internet users can also submit a permissions request to use any online content.”.
No explanation is given how the people who run the site were able to reach licensing agreement with over 300 million web site owners thoughout the world so as to be able to represent those owners for licensing purposes. Clearly there is a miracle in efficieny here or a big lie.
Also no explanation is given on how to avoid a lawsuit if the license obtained from these folks turn out to be worthless.
Will anyone ivestigate these “educators”.
