No explanation is given how to avoid a defamation lawsuit (or gunfire) when reporting the criminal copyright infringement habits of your close acquaintances.

“Internet users can also submit a permissions request to use any online content.”.

No explanation is given how the people who run the site were able to reach licensing agreement with over 300 million web site owners thoughout the world so as to be able to represent those owners for licensing purposes. Clearly there is a miracle in efficieny here or a big lie.

Also no explanation is given on how to avoid a lawsuit if the license obtained from these folks turn out to be worthless.

Will anyone ivestigate these “educators”.

The British Library hopes to protect statutory exceptions and fair dealing, which enable libraries to make and preserve copies of content, and make them available for research purposes and for disabled people.

“This is a global, international issue,” Brindley said. “We have to have the same balance as in traditional print. We are seeking a triage ensuring creators are rewarded but also that the public good is served.”

The Open Rights Group, a digital civil-rights organization, said it “whole-heartedly supported” the British Library’s call for a clarification of copyright law.

A Chinese journalist jailed in part due to e-mail evidence provided by a Yahoo subsidiary plans to file a lawsuit in the U.S. against the Internet company within the next few months.

Tao was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Amnesty International and Reporters Without Borders have both criticized Yahoo over the Tao incident, and a group of U.S. lawmakers blasted a group of Internet companies earlier this year, including Yahoo, Google, Microsoft and Cisco Systems, for failing to uphold free expression in China.

“Internet companies should not disclose personal information that could violate the basic human rights of their users,” Ho said.
